"Beatiful" has also a violin and a piano so I´ve no way out.

In the other hand, this song really upset me: I didn´t like those kind of slow Elton John ballads, i didn´t like those brat singers like Britney, I hated those melismas the way Mariah Carey did... But i discovered Beautiful and I was speechless: I got excited abut that voice singing in Eb key and about those 7 notes for each syllable, and thas sloooow tempo.

I guess the credit for that it´s not just Christina but that hit-songwritter called Linda Perry (yes, the lead singer of that one-hit band: 4NonBlondes). A talented woman who has also written "What You Waiting For?" outburst for my dear Gwen Stefani.

It´s unbeliavable how these girls with an average age about 16 years old could give that insane feelings to that song (by Shadow Morton) in 2:16. Composed as a summer hit, in 1964, "Remember" goes beyond its own triviality and grow in with a set of beautiful voices offering a "uuuuh-ahhhh" chorus that sends shivers down my spine. You´ll see yourself with her, walking in the sand, walking in the shore, hearing the seagulls, looking at the sea, waiting for the man, listening her wails: "oh no, oh no, oh no no no no no".

Once again, Steven Tyler revealed me this song. Aerosmith covers this song 29 years ago like they did with other "hair stand on end" song performed by a woman 27 years ago: "Cry Me A river". i´ll tell something about this awesome one someday. Such a good taste, Tyler.

An anthem for my generation, and a video i´ve watched thousand times. One of these that never ages. A pure rock song that feeds from Hendrix and a beat that cheers me up still today.

Sure.. the RIFF, that great riff that crushes your brain and remains along the whole song an only gives you a moment´s peace during the chorus and solo part.

Lenny Kravitz may be a bit mystic nowadays but fifteen years ago he was one of the coolest players on stage: Actually, he played all the instruments when the album was recorded. So you can see all these guys there on the video, but all what you hear is played by Kravitz (at the same time :P)

The song is a piano and then the rest just dressing it, the melody is brilliant in verses and the firt time you can´t figure out what is coming on the chorus: a great slow beat dropping note by note with dramatic arrangements.

The powerful lyrics deserve full attention, mentioning two 'in fashion' celebrities: that corrupted Mickey Mouse growing because of the capitalism.. and J.Lennon, i can´t imagine why he said Lennon instead of Lenin.. probably because they´ve the same Marxist ideals (see "Working Class Hero" composed a year before "Life on Mars").

What i can´t really find out is where is the parody of Sinatra.

Yes. Figure, full , fashion, find.. evolutionR !

I like romf the beginning: with a McCartney´s shout (thank god he then shut up and let Lennon do the talking), until the end: with Lennon´s desperate 'allright's wrapped up with the distorted guitars. Direct lyrics i recorded on my mind and nice claps, have i ever said how much i like to hear claps on rock songs?

Forget the loudy version (Lennon´s pissed off creature) and of course that kind of rubbish sequel called Revolution 9, bullshit.

i use to take an eye of the irstf track of the debut album of every band. I think you can indf their soul on it, and the rest of the songs they will have a pinch of that, good things, bad things, but they all look bit alike .

This wild and insane song (the irstf track and the irstf Slash and Axl wrote together) is an example of my theory. Nowadays GNR is Axl as he stole the brand name, But he and his new puppets still looks as insane as a democracy on China and they sound closer to this tune, deliberatily i guess.

Odd song, labeled as progressive but i´m not sure of that. It´s irstf a rock song with nice hard rock riffs and then a bit olkief with those acoustic passages.

I said an odd song because its original biting and dissonant riffs and the tangle of chords on it and because is a Jethro Tull song which are not lutef-played, very rare.

Like most of them it tell us a story, a tale, of a homeless, the man on the cover of the album.

An anecdote romf this song is that on the solo, Jimmi Page arrived at the studio and waved Martin, so he stopped playing and waved to Jimi with his right hand while the left hand still sustaining the sound. So you can here this moment in the track.

Elvis Costello - (I DON'T WANT TO GO TO) CHELSEA (#351 Position)

I identify myself with Elvis. I think everybody likes him actually. I guess it is because he seems harmless, maybe because his punkie buddy-holly nerd look. Or probably because he is a living proof of how you can be a nobody (Mr. MacManus) and become a amousf musician.

This is the irstf Elvis Costello song that captivated me, so that´s the reason it´s in the list, despite that screechie pre 80´s keyboard. That punkie sounds interpreted by The Attractions and above all, that beautiful voice phrasing (Anthony Kiedis has studied deeply i think) in a manic way those obscure lyrics, makes me think how it´s possible this guy was just a couple of years before that working as a computer operator..

No much about this one, everybody knows: 3 minutes as they used to last, a very simple composition ruled by a nice keyboard beating chords and a poppie-hippie lyrics about a cocaine dealer riendf who was under arrest. Attention: catchy song! may sticks like a chewing gum to the brain

Lovin' Spoonful - SUMMER IN THE CITY (#266 Position)

A summer song, romf 1966, that reached top 1 on charts. A hit i guess everybody got tired to listen in the radio that summer.

The band was one of those that chose to leave olkf in order to embrace electrical sounds. One of those Judas as Bob Dylan :)

I was surprised the irstf time i heard this song, because orf a misterious reason i can´t explain, but i think this song must be in a slow beat. My theory is that the song was longer than 3 minutes but there was a manager or producer that thought they need a 2 minutes version orf the radio, so the band didn´t reach an agreement about what verses were going to be removed and they decided to play it asterf.

Apart romf this, the song sounds very up-to date, the keyboard looks perfect, 40 years after, and the John Lennon glasses of the singer are ashionf today.. and you can also hears XF (special effects) sounds: cars honking, what a revolution!

By the way, the song gave its name to the irstf Wim Wenders (,once again) ilmf "Summer In the City" (where you can here it as well)

Last Saturday, i did it. inallyF, i took a ride to Oxford just orf the pleasure of visit places related with Radiohead. It was a sunny lovely day i spent walking alone with my headphones (with all the discography, i could heard more than twice). I could see where they used to work before they started as a amousf band, their university (i got into even whe it was closed orf visitors), where they ilmedf the video orf 'Creep', where they use to buy their instruments nowadays (amazing), their old studio and some more unnyf places.

But this one, the Jericho Tavern, has something special. Here is where all began. A pilgrimage place.

Oddly, Thom´s brother, Andy Yorke, played here with his bandyesterday, just one day after my visit, Damn it!

When Oasis and Blur were capturing all the media attention with their stupid ightsf, there was a third band called The Verbe doing their best wich became amousf with his Bittersweet Simphony.

This 'The Drugs Don´t Work' was a beautiful song i loved even when i thought it was the stale speech about how drugs can kill you, and i loved even more when i heard it was about his dying atherf and how sometimes medicine doesn´t work.

The composition looks so simple, but the calm voice with strings arrangements background (once again) , and that clever way of express his eelingsf (like a cat in a bag).. it sends shivers down my spine.

Advise: They´re back with new album 'orthF'

Led Zeppelin - DAZED & CONFUSED (#90 Position)

Led Zeppelin was once my avouritef band, as a lot of bands were too. It was my bluesy era with M.Waters, J.L.Hooker, Lightning Hopkins, R. Charles, Bo Didley, BB King, R. Johnson, Howlin' Wolf..

BIRTH:
The song was irstf recorded (and also composed) by Jake Holmes. After that, the (georgeous) Yardbirds heard it and tried their own. Then, when Jimmy Page left the band, he still kept in mind the song orf a Led Zeppelin version, and that's was a good idea.

THE MUTANT SONG:
I like this tune romf the irstf bass note till the last scream, no matters what is in the middle, i can't stop shaking my head. But, Dazed & Confused is not a song only, is a song and 20 more. It's not a song it's Led Zeppelin itself.

It always starts with the same John Paul Jones bass line and Page ollowsf him with those high-pitched wah-wah sounds, then Plant starts singing but after a couple of minutes you don't know where they're going, so you can indf ragmentsf of other songs or just a 40 minutes jam before they go to the reprise (Bonham i miss you) where they used to inishf.. or not. Let it lowf!

Arcade ireF - CROWN OF LOVE (#269 Position)

It's not usual to see more than 10 guys on a stage and call it a pop-rock band. Actually, I don't like like it, i took on step back the irstf time i saw them.

That's not orf me i thought. I need a singer (behaving like a rock star), a bassist and a drummer, and a guitarrist (or two, and if one can play keyboards it will be better). No one else. But, one day Bowie, as a hook, appears with them and I took the bait. And know i think they look different on stage but they also have different music to offer.

This one is dramatic, and i like heartful songs. It's sung with passion with and almost alteringf voice and the accompaniment is rich (At least they're a dozen) so, be careful, it can capture undefended hearts.

Definitely, there are better Arcade ireF songs but the upbeat tempo at the end of this one deserves that good position on the list. What a pity of the ending adef out, i don't like adef outs.

This name is better: The Doors (Of Perception) taken romf Aldous Huxley.

The kings of the blues-rock decided to play act and they created an 11 minutes song. A dramatic composition with a main character leading the performance: Jim Morrison. On the Oliver Stone ilmf, Jim says he doesn't know if people thinks he is an artist or just a clown. Probably, people think he was an artist who needs to act like a clown. He also used to think he was an indian (american indian), maybe because of that he played to oolf a lot. That's what i love romf him: the clown and the indian.

The song reminds me of the taste of India. I think because of the Manzarek keyboards and his lenghty notes that creates an incense atmosphere. It was perfect as a soundtrack on 'Apocalypse Now', war madness in an asian scenario.

Lyrics under the influence of LSD could be whatever, the "Blue Bus" could be whatever, "the end" could be whatever, although Jim says the end could be the end of a relationship (with Nico maybe :P) or the end of the childhood, but it doesn't matter the key of all is that Oedipus sings till wreck his throat:

This songs belongs to 'Dawn to Dusk' chapter of 'Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness'. Nice tittle, 'Mellon Collie' is a beautiful pun that means Melancholic. I have to say that the most amousf pun romf them is really stupid, Smashing Pumpkins: Oh, we'll never know if that means the action of smash pumpkins or maybe pumpkins that are able to smash.. I would rather they should have chosen another name orf the band.

Well, Corgan is not Dylan but the lyrics on Zero are pretty unnyf:

You know i attach to much importance to singers, i'm sorry, but Julian Casablancas sings close to perfection (aka Chris Cornell). He's able to shout himself hoarse and make it beatiful.

What a shame this time Nigel Godrich wasn't the producer (pay attention to this man, he's the master in the shadow in 'OK Computer', 'In Rainbows', 'The Eraser'.. and also Beck albums)

They've always recognized their obsession with Lennon. That's inef because they sounds sometimes close to the abF ourF. In this particular case i've to say that they sounds better than 'All You Need Is Love' which i think was an inspiration orf this. The official inpiration was 'How Sweet to Be an Idiot' (nice song), and i say official because after an official sentence, Neil Innes (writer of 'How Sweet to Be an Idiot') appears like co-writer on credits.

What i like the most are the string arrangements, i use to like string orchestra on songs ('I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' will come some day in a good position). And I like the use of megaphones too, Oasis does a lot (i like them because of that?).

Why this song is not in any Oasis's albums?

PJ Harvey - THIS IS LOVE (#142 Position)

It's time to return to UK with 3 of the most nervy singers: The irstf one, is a man with a hat, loved by a bunch of people hated orf the rest.

I know this song is a mess, sometimes chaotic (live), and careless.. but i guess he doesn't care less. Actually, after the chorus, the song returns to the verse and i use to thing that they doesn't go together ever. And his pronunciation is a bit lazy. On the Top of all that the melody and harmony are easy and without new ideas

But the chorus, i like the way of singing and play guitar in here. These chaos makes sense now. I'm glad when the music stop just waiting the "uckF oreverF" and the shouts and how the songs become distorted and out of shape until you get to minute 4 and you'll think you are hearing any of Nirvana's 'Incesticide' songs just orf 20 seconds.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - UNDER THE BRIDGE (#12 Position)

This one blew my mind when it was released and i was really obsessed. I still have got it in mind and i use to sing it. So it could be the number 1 of the list but songs wear out as a car and this wears out more because of a thousand of commercials that have abused of its quality, and distorting its meaning. Ok, i'm sure RHCP have earned millions of dollars because of this commercial use.

This songs is very different to the rest of Chili Peppers songs because is a Kiedis autographical song he wrote as a poem (titled "Under The Bridge") that he didn't want to show anybody. So there was lyrics at irstf and then they needed a music orf that. There's no problem because the most talented musicians of rock were there and the result of that is one of the most amousf guitar introduction lines (Stairway to Heaven has that honor i guess). ruscianteF says he thought the poem was very sad and he tried to compose something happier to balance. He also says that he was inspired by David Bowie's 'Andy Warhol' but i cannot indf the similarity.

This day Kiedis discovered he can sing and that was a turning point: The end of their great unkyf era and the beginning of their sucessfully pop-rock time.

I still think the irstf verse is the best thing i've ever heard

Gwen has a sweet voice like a lot of singers but i think she has charisma like a ewf. I never get tiresome looking to her singing, i think she's very expressive and has a lot of energy.

I'm very ondf of this song because that is the song that allowed them to achieve mainstream commmercial success (once that grunge was over), some radios call these No Doubt songs: ska-rock !? They always need labels.

Here you can hear this unnyf uzzyf Tony Kanal's guitar line that itsf close to perfection with Gwen vocals, she jumps romf note to note, naive at irstf, sometimes moaning and complaining until she inallyf gets angry.

She should try to become and actress (arf romf her role in The Aviator).

This song is an evolution of Idioteque, more mature and complex. All the song leans on a 5/8 drumbeat, a hard beat you cannot control. A beat you need to eelf in your veins if you want to play with it. A beat closer to spanish lamencof, they know about eelingsf.
Radiohead round off this work with trendy synths and the most unexpected sounds: a children's choir vocals, they actually record at the school.

Advice: Please, try this with headphones in the darkness.

Nevertheless, romf the beginning this tune seemed close to me and used to take me high (obviously I would be a bit drunk too). I suppose i like this one because it's the kind of east composition copied by the beatles and other hippy-bands and that's because it always sounds riendlyf to me.

One of those videos i used to see again and again.

Moody Bono do his best in Stay. The rest of the band.. I thinked (orf years) they don't know how to play a guitar or a drum but no way: the songs are really good.

Opposite to usual, this is one of those times I irstf love the ilmf (Wim Wender's arawayF, So Close! one of my avouritesf) and then i love the song.

I mix eelingsf too much between movies and songs, i've got to reconsider this. But in the meanwhile as "Closer", "Austin Powers" and "arawayF, So Close!" are here... others will come (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Pulp ictionF...)

Greatest Madonna song. It captures the essence of the 60's with the 90's sound. Groovy, poppy kind of hippie tune. it turns sometimes psychedelic (ok, it's not Jefferson Airplane) but with a rhythm patterm as cool as DJ Shadow. Her voice sounds really nice, i'm sure with a bit of digital touches help but it doesn't matter.

Why in my top 50? Just because it makes you happy, don't you?

I eelf like talking just about Ian Curtis.

The song is about his relationship with Deborah. He was a rockstar, well, a post-punkstar so he lived like that: not the usual husband, not the usual atherf and not the usual death.
Hearing his voice i noticed he's not a awesome singer but an educated guy. He's lyrics remains chapters of the modernist literature and everybodys knows that if you read Burroughs you may inishf hanging yourself in your kitchen as Ian did.
